Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (Sept. 15, 2020) – John Carney II posted his career-best World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series result last Friday during the Boot Hill Showdown opener at Dodge City Raceway Park.

The SawBlade.com Xiphos saw blade and South Plains Towing sponsored driver, who was piloting a car for Scott Brown, finished 12th on Friday before recording a 14th-place result on Saturday.

“I think it went very well considering the company,” Carney II said. “We were a little too tight both nights, but we changed some things around and we got a little better each time we hit the track. We have things pointed in the right direction.”

Carney II qualified 14th quickest to open the action on Friday. He then advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race, which gave him the eighth starting position in the main event.

“The first lap I wasn’t expecting the track to be that tight,” he said. “The track got heavier before the main event. It caught almost everyone off guard because everyone was tight on entry. The first lap I drove through a hole in turn three and it shot me up the track. I lost seven or eight spots. Had I not bounced up the track I really feel like I could have finished sixth or seventh. Even though it was tight on entry, the car was really good. The restarts were really good for us because we passed a car each time.”

Carney II rebounded from the early miscue by rallying to a 12th -place finish.

He followed that up on Saturday by timing in 12th quickest, maneuvering from fourth to third place in a heat race and placing 14 th in the main event.

“We weren’t as competitive the second night,” he said. “We were too tight against the cushion and fought that the whole race. But we were right there racing at the back of the top 10 with World of Outlaw drivers. We were within reach of the fastest guys in the world.”

Carney II will resume World of Outlaws competition this Friday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the Texas Outlaw Nationals.

“We want to improve on our finishes from last weekend,” he said. “With the format we have to get a little better at timing in. Our program is pretty close. It’s really down to us fine-tuning. I run well at Lawton and Devil’s Bowl. Not that that gives me any advantage, but at least I’ll be comfortable with the tracks.”
